Indepentent studio time.

19th October
Today i am working towards a finished piece, i have come to this neck piece by first looking at the books in the library and then coming to a dead end then i started working with metal from the scaffolding outside the library. this has been very successful. i am very happy with my neck piece, i still needs to be finished however i feel i am going in the right direction. Today i had to sign up for a new workshop and i chosen felt, i do not know how this will work out however i am excited to find out. I have used to types of metals in this piece, one very soft and one very hard and ruff metal, I have done this because when i looked closer at the library the stone used to build the library looks very calm and soft, however next to the metal scaffolding they are total opposites. I really like using the two very different objects together, however just looking at them both together you can not really see they are very different, and this is much the same case when looking at the library.

Independent studio time.

18th October
I spent my time doing more drawings and trying to develop them, i experimented by doing some rubbings by placing the mesh over the paper and using a oil pastel and rubbing. I found this technique very interesting and wanted to develop it so did some drawings on top of the rubbings. I was very successful and in some way by layering the media it kind of looks 3d at looking at it. I also experimented with collage.
I have also introduced some colour into my drawings. I found the pink by looking very closly into the photograph i took. As this breif was for me to look more closer into my chosen place i am trying the stay away from the more ovbious colours and shapes. I have really took this breif seriously and not just went with the first thing i have found i have developed them till it almost becomes a new project and it is not only about the library but also the rubbings and the mesh, so i will look at more different types of mesh and the different colours to do rubbings with.

3D Workshop.

17th October

Today i had my last 3d workshop, i have not made my final piece however i have come up with a idea and over the next couple of days i will complete it. I am thinking of doing a neck piece which could turn into a necklace made with mesh. As the mesh is very sharp i have glue the sides with a glue gun. The results are very good. I hgave also worked in my sketch book and done some drawings.

Contextualising Practice.

On friday 14th oct i had a lecture and seminar on challenging thinking and theories of creativity. We looked into if creativity is having the idea to do something or is it making the piece. Who is the creative one?

Drawing workshop.

13th October

Today i had a drawing workshop,  what we did was play a game of chinese whispers and we had to draw what we heard. What i heard was 2 drawings with a 2mm gap, we had to use black and white media. What i used was black paint. We then were given the actual sentance which was draw 2 spirals one going in and one going out with a 2mm gap. We then used two big pieces of paper and did 2 spirals. What i learnt from this is that i have to be more confident and really look outside the box. What was really interesting is looking at the peoples work that was stood next to me in Chinese whispers. What this task did was to make us really drawing what first comes to us in a way, and to not really stress about what to do. Also i have to really think outside the box and really look deeper in to the subject so this task has really help me with my sleuths, spies and lies breif as it is really making me think deeper into the drawing and having a time in which to do the drawing it made me just do the drawing and not stress which was very good.

Independent studio time.

12th October

I was told not to just use the pages from book and try to use more of a wide range of materials. So i looked closer at the library and i am really interested in the new restoration and the scaffolding. So i looked closer and the the metals and the pattern in the scaffolding, the one thing i thought would link in really well with this was a metal mesh. So i bought some mesh and rods of flexable metal. I feel this could be soo much more interesting and i can do alot more with this, i played around with the mesh and made a little samples, I also looked at different designers who used metal in there work.

Tutorial and 3d Workshop.

11th October

I showed people my work and my progress, they gave me some feedback of doing more drawings so i spent most of my day drawing. The feedback included try and take the drawings and research i am doing a link it with the 3d construction, and make more samples and maybe in time develop into a piece of clothing. I was also advised to do more large scale drawings, so move what i am doing in my small book on to larger pieces of paper or something 3d. I was told my development is going well so far and to keep up with what i am doing.

3d Workshop.

10th October

I continued to work on the stand and creat samples. I bagan to take more inspiration from the shape of the Central library. I was really inspired by roundness and curves of the structure. Today i also used bond a web on the pages from books to make them strong and easier to work with. Tomorrow i plan on developing my ideas and maybe start working into the pages from books, maybe cut shapes out with a blade, this could be very interesting.

Pattern cutting.

I was thinking of making a top to then place to pages from books on to. so these are my pattern cuttings. This will really bring my brief of the library together. The book pages will bring a very nice colour to the top, also the colour from the pages of the books are very simialar to the colours found outside in the stone.
The pattern size is size 10 ladies, stretch top.

Contextualising Practice lecture.

What is making? In this weeks lecture we discussed traditional forms of construction. We asked questions such as but how does that require skill? What is a skill? Is skill important?
We also got told to read  Liesbeth den Besten “Deskilled Craft and Borrowed Skill” in Skill by Think Tank edition 5, 2009.

Independent study studio time.

6th October
Today i spent my time trying to strengthen the paper so i can do more with it. My most successful attempt was weaving the pages. I find this experimental piece very interesting as it does strengthen the paper but also it looks very good so in some way it is doing two jobs at once. I really like the idea that there are two pages in just one so you are getting a very different story. With this i am really trying to look into any way to stay away from he obvious route as in my brief it tells me to really investigate my chosen place.

Independent study studio time.

5th October

I spent my time drawing from the photographs a had taken. I also researched some designers who also make dresses out of paper. Looking at these designers really inspired me to really push this idea of the dress made from paper. However, i am worried that i may be picking an idea and going with it to early and i do need to develop this to make it so much more stronger. I do like the idea of having the paper which is really close to the library and this is because books are always found in libraries and without books you can not find a library. However it would be nice to look more outside the library because so far i have only really look inside. As the library is getting restored i have been unable to take photographs of inside of look inside so i would be really good for me to just investigate the outside of the building.

Designers i have researched include...
Lia Griffith

Alexandra Zaharova.

3D Workshop.

 4th October
I continued to work on the stand still looking at my photographs on the Central library.
I am enjoying using pages from books as it really shows my place to be the Library. sometimes paper dresses can look slightly cheap and tacky. However i am very happy with how my samples are turning out. With the pages from the book i am really trying to make new shapes and not just do the obvious one i have soon by looking at the library. I am really trying to make this piece really dramatic and i feel i have done this with these samples. I am looking so far into the library that i am almost finding new shapes. I found this triangle shape from looking at a pattern in a arch way.

3d Workshop.

3rd October

I went out to my chosen place the Central library and took photographs.
I also started working on the stand, working from the photographs.
With working on the stand it really helps me develop my ideas and really i can do anything with this and the possibilities are endless. The hard part for me is taking the ideas on the stand and making it with fabric . So i would really like to maybe make the dress all out of paper. The great thing about the library is it holds so many amazing books, which is something for me to look more at.

Contextualising Practice lecture.

On 30th Sep i had a lecture which gave me a overall introduction to what i can expect to be doing this year. I also had a seminar. In the seminar everyone talked about the lecture we had just had. I also got my reading list.

Drawing workshop.

29th September
I have a drawing session every Thursday. I use black and white media and draw on 12cmx12cm pieces of paper. My first 15 drawings were based on the dog project and i had to draw a selection of different dogs. I also had to do a drawing exercise which meant i was given a series of statements, i had to do some drawings very quickly and some i had a bit longer to do the drawings. This drawing workshop has really helped me as it really makes me work a lot fast than i am normally used to and it really made me push myself and at some times i did not really understand the sentence or did in to want to do i did it anyways and at the end i either really liked it or i didn't and if i did not well at least i tried it and i can now use it was development.

Health and safety workshop.

28th September

I had a introduction to the sewing machines. I learned how to thread up a sewing machine and i was introduced to the overlocker. Now i have had this introduction i can use these machines freely.Using this sewing machine really helped me to learn a lot of techniques i had not done before.

Intro to 3d workshop.

27th September

I got an introduction into 3d construction. i was shown a powerpoint with artist and designers i can look at, which included....
Lucy and bart "grown on you"
Anastasiya-Komarova

I enjoyed looking at these designers and artist as it gives me alot of inspiration. I have looked at the details and shapes.
